Official Selection Boston Jewsih Film Festival

Exciting news, I WAS THERE IN COLOR has been accepted for Boston Jewish Film Festival.

Also we've been getting the press attention -

Jane Jamison in Uncoverage.net about I was There in Color "Rare color footage of Israel was taken by American Jewish businessman Fred Monosson in “pre-Israel” and recently found by his relatives in a storage area. The images have been woven into a documentary which has been going viral on the internet."

Going back in time: I Was There in Color in Retronaut "This beautifully soundtracked footage is taken from I Was There in Color, a documentary about the colour films made by Fred Monesson during the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Monosson was a Jewish American businessman who died in 1972. His color archive was found in the basement of his house."

Screening in JCC Manhattan

With the world premiere of my documentary 'I was there in color'. Unfortunately I couldn't be there but a week later I arrived to NY. Isaac Zablocki the director of the film program at the JCC told me it was a successful event that moved many people.

I was barraged with warm and emotional e mails some of which I posted on the guest book page.I am always amazed how lucky I was to find this treasure of his long forgotten color film archive and what a journey it turned out to be.

I strongly believe that the reward to my finding is to tell the world about this amazing colorful person Fred Monosson which I never met but feel towards him as an intimate and close friend, due to the endless days and hours of watching and studying his films.

Many people after watching the movie come to me and share their enthusiasm from the scope and scale of his passion. The fever of his commitment to the young emerging Jewish State never seize to amaze them. Watching suddenly major historical

Events and familiar political leaders in color instead of B&W is another shocking revelation to many of them.

Usually two questions are immediately addressed to me: "how many hours he shot?" to which I reply around 40 followed by "will you make a second chapter based on his archive?" to which I answer, "I do not know I need more time and space after three intensive years with him and his archive."

In Israel I uploaded many important historical events that he shot to YNET portal allowing many people to search, explore and enjoy the footage (link enclosed)

Some of these amazing footage can be viewed on the VIDEO page.

I was invited to present the movie in Australia (never been there) to the local Jewish community and I look forward to meet the people and listen to their reaction.

From my perspective the amazing journey of the Monosson story continues.

I am only his humble servant.

How was the film born

'I Was There In Color' was born by sheer accident.  Days before being thrown out, I luckily stumbled upon dozens of reels of rare 16 mm color film that were stashed away in a Brookline basement.  I was lucky to find this treasure while searching all over the world  for films and T.V. programs about  Jewish History while working as programming director for the Israel History channel. Very quickly I realized I had found pure gold. The material covered one of the most dramatic periods of Jewish History, from the end of WW2 through to the establishment of the State of Israel and it's first two decades.  This material, unlike any I had seen before, was in color. It revealed that the cameraman had access to all the major events he was shooting.   This revelation sent me off on a detective hunt to find out who he was.  The journey exposed the story of Fred Monosson.   He was one of the pillars of the Jewish community in Boston and nicknamed "the king of rain coats".  His personal story tells of an orphan emigrating from Russia to Boston in the early 20th century to become a rich and successful businessman who had a passion for documenting his personal life which intertwined with the major historical events of Jewish history. Monosson's unique archive revealed that he was not only witnessing events but was deeply involved in them. 'I Was There in Color' is his story - an American Zionist who was deeply involved with the birth of the State of Israel.

On April 21st Israel independence day was celebrated in the Manhattan JCC
